I am blessed to have had several months of fairly steady work in my graphic design field. I've got some fantastic clients who call on me time and again, and for whom I do some really good work.
I miss making patterns when I am doing hourly or commissioned work, but I love paying rent more!
Since I don't have any new patterns to post here, I've looked through my library and found these old calling card - based images that have always been a favorite. They're part of a set of four.
They are available to purchase via tracymillerdesigns.com

Rugs
Sometimes I spend a whole day formatting my patterns into rectangles, sometimes with a border. Viola! A rug or doormat.
I've sold several, so I keep creating!

New Year's Resolution(s)
I have three main resolutions.
My first resolution is to continue practicing living in the moment, to give my full attention to whatever I'm doing NOW.
My second is to create more totally original designs without relying so much on inspiration from existing work.
The third resolution is to continue practicing this: When I perceive a future event that fills me with apprehension, I shall stop, take a deep breath, and be calm. Psalms 46:10 "Be still and know I am God."
I'm not religious at all, but that verse speaks to me.
Another thing that speaks to me (how is that for a segue?) is still vector grunge effects. I've acquired some high res textures recently, have Live Traced them and made repeats from them.
Applied over another repeat of the same size and viola!

Engineered Pattern on a Long Sleeved T-Shirt
My first attempt at this was not all I hoped it would be, but did prove the concept: I create all the pieces for a t-shirt in Illustrator, add patterns to them, have it digitally printed at Spoonflower, and then cut and sew the garment.
I didn't consult my paper color chips, so didn't realize that the coral color in my shirt would be blaze orange, and I added too many elements. I'm excited about the process, though.
Digital printing, my skills at creating patterns, plus my knowledge of sewing opens up myriad possibilities.

Christmas Patterns
I've been lucky enough in the last couple of weeks to have graphic design jobs, even if they're other than creating surface art. I'm not waiting tables, so I count my blessings.
I don't have anything new that I can post, but this timeless Holiday collection is just right this week before Christmas to put me in the mood.

Product Sighting - in My Livingroom
It always a treat to see your design on a finished product.
In the past several months I've been converting my designs to needlepoint grids for Needlepaint.com , work that I have become addicted to.
They do fantastic work creating custom canvases for pillows, Christmas stockings, belts and even dog collars.
Look at the finished pillow they created for me from my original design! Gorgeous!
